Our Residencies

La Devignère offers self-funded residencies open to international artists, writers and researchers needing time and space for writing, reflection and research in a peaceful and supportive environment.

Our annual open residencies usually take place in the summer months. The usual time for a residency is two weeks, with the possibility of longer periods, and a minimum of one week on request.

Each artist/writer will be provided with a large comfortable private living and working space in a peaceful environment.

Residents are free to use our large collective kitchen. Shopping can be done at our local shops and twice weekly farmers’ market. We host an evening meal twice weekly to be shared together with all residents. This is an important part of the conviviality of the retreat and allows for artists to meet and exchange with the other residents as well as with the hosts and creative network of the area. Our meals are vegetarian and based on local seasonal organic food where possible, and are included in the overall price.

Other facilities include a large rehearsal/dance/aerial space (rigging 6 metres in height), darkroom and painting/making studio. Use of these is scheduled. Artists should specify in their application if they will need the use of these spaces.

We ask each artist/writer to present work in progress at the end of the residency period. This is very informal and can take any form the artist wishes.

Couples and families are welcome. Please contact us directly for specific requests. However, we do not facilitate people wishing to be on holidays or to visit the region as we find that this disrupts the atmosphere of focused work and creativity.

The working languages at La Devignère are French and English. We also speak Spanish.
